If you have applied for the R350 SRD grant and now your application status is on ‘Pending’ then according to SASSA, this means that your application has not yet been approved. It means that SASSA is still in the process of scanning your details so that they can be verified first.
What do you need to do?
SASSA has advised applicants to keep on checking their SRD status for updates if they have not been approved yet.
Once your application undergoes the verification process, SASSA is then validating the information you provided, such as your ID number, Name, and Surname, by the Department of Home Affairs.
Your ID number is then matched against various databases such as South African Revenue Sevices (SARS), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and National Student Finacial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). This is to check if you are receiving any other sources of income or grants and if you are, you will then not be approved.
After this, your ID number and mobile number are then put through a Fraud Risk Scoring process.
If your application is approved then you will receive payment through the bank, Post Office or Cash Send.
Applicants need to note that there is no fixed date for the Special Covid-19 R350 SRD grant to be paid.
This means that the applicant will be paid for each month as long as they still meet the qualification criteria. SASSA checks every month whether beneficiaries still qualify. There is no need to apply every month for this to happen.
The turnaround time of payment after the application has been approved is up to 7 days. SASSA has however emphasized that there is no set payment date for the grant
