Part-Time Opportunities at the Department of Basic Education
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is offering part-time positions for various critical examination-related functions. If you have the relevant expertise and experience, consider applying for the following positions:
- Internal Moderator (REF NO: IM/02/2023):
- Responsible for independent evaluation of question papers.
- Convene Marking Standardisation Meetings.
- Conduct marker training.
- Prepare reports on the standard and quality of question papers.
- Coordinate the finalization of the Diagnostic Report for the subject.
- Requirements:
- All requirements listed for an examiner.
- Must have served for a minimum of two years as an examiner in setting national question papers.
- SBA Moderator (REF NO: SBA/03/2023):
- Responsible for the quality assurance of SBA, including PATs and orals.
- Audit SBA systems.
- Moderate assessment tasks and teacher files.
- Develop exemplar tasks for SBA.
- Requirements:
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
- At least five years of teaching experience at the Grade 12 level.
- Must have served as an SBA moderator.
- Understanding of policies related to NCS, CAPS, and NSS Examinations.
- Marking Moderator (REF NO: MM/04/2023):
- Responsible for the moderation of marking at marking centers during the SC and NSC examinations.
- Conduct investigative moderation where necessary.
- Requirements:
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
- At least five years of teaching experience at the Grade 12 level.
- Must have served as a Chief Marker, Deputy Chief Marker, or Senior Marker.
- Examination Monitors (REF NO: EM/05/2023):
- Responsible for monitoring the entire examination cycle.
- Requirements:
- Must have relevant expertise and experience.
- Special Examiner: Braille or Deaf (REF NO: SE/BD/06/2023):
- Specialized role for Braille or Deaf examination papers.
- Requirements:
- Must have relevant expertise and experience.
- Editors (REF NO: ED/07/2023):
- Responsible for the editing of question papers.
- Requirements:
- Must have relevant expertise and experience.
Additional Criteria for All Positions:
- Computer literacy.
- Good writing/oral communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team and without supervision.
- Good leadership skills.
- Candidates will undergo competency tests and interviews.
Subjects for SBA and PAT Moderators: Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, English FAL, Geography, History, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, Agricultural Technology, and more.
Languages (Home, First Additional, Second Additional): Afrikaans, English, IsiXhosa, IsiZulu, IsiNdebele, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, SiSwati, South African Sign Language (Home Language).
Specialists for Adaptation: Adaptation for Braille, Adaptation for the deaf.
