About AFDA

AFDA South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance was founded in 1994 by Garth Holmes, Bata Passchier and Deon Opperman. The school is a member of CILECT – an international organization that represents over 170 film and tv schools. AFDA is an award-winning film institution and is the number 1 tv and performance school on the continent. The institution has five fully equipped campuses in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Botswana. Some of the top film-makers and actors in South Africa today have studied and graduated from this institution.

AFDA Postgraduate Honours Development Bursaries

AFDA has an funding list of partnering bursary funders and providers to help registered students of the institution with financial academic support. This is subject to the availability and the funder’s current student qualification. The bursary covers part or full value of one-year full-time tuition fees for the course. Current AFDA third-year students, previous AFDA BA graduates and outside RPL (Recognised Prior Learning) candidates are encouraged to apply.

AFDA Postgraduate Honours Development Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • Academic excellence
  • Interest in degree/university electives and/or experience/learning in motion picture and similar field
  • Capacity for teaching, mentoring, administrative or marketing
  • Evidence of financial incapacity
