Telkom is an information and communications technology services provider in South Africa with about 3 million telephone lines in service and more than 1 million ports connected through MSAN. The company provides business and individual customers variety of products and services such as fixed-line retail voice, fixed-line customer premises equipment rental and sales, interconnection, fixed-line data, Data Centre Operations, Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), mobile communication and information technology.

Telkom Bursaries

The Telkom Bursary programme is awarded to students who wish to pursue undergraduate studies in the fields of Electrical Engineering (Light Current) Information Technology / Computer Science Marketing and Accounting.

Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

University – Undergraduate

  • : B Engineering Electronic and Computer Engineering / Electronic / Electrical (Light Current) and B Sc Engineering Electronic / Electrical (Light Current)
    • Minimum NSC Rating or 7 (80%) in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, NSC Rating of 5 (60%) in English and an aggregate NSC Rating of 5 (60%) for Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate
    • Minimum 60% overall average and no failed subjects for Tertiary students
  • Computer Science/ :B Sc Computer Science Information Technology / Software Development
    • Minimum NSC Rating or 6 (70%) in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, NSC Rating of 5 (60%) in English and an aggregate NSC Rating of 5 (60%) for Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate
    • Minimum 60% overall average and no failed subjects for Tertiary students
  • Marketing: B Com Information Technology / B Com Information Systems / B Business Science, all majoring in Marketing; B Com Marketing Management
    • Applicants with good English communications skills will be given preference
    • Minimum NSC Rating of 5 (60%) in Mathematics and Accounting, NSC Rating of 5 (60%) in English and an aggregate NSC Rating of 5 (60%) for Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate
    • Minimum 60% overall average and no failed subjects for Tertiary students

University  of Technology – Technikon

  • Engineering: ND Computer Systems Engineering and ND (Light Current)
    • Minimum NSC Rating of 6 (60%) in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, NSC Rating of 4 (50%) in English and an aggregate NSC Rating of 4 (50%) for Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate
    • Minimum 60% overall average and no failed subjects for Tertiary students
  • Information Technology: ND information Technology (Communication Networks) and ND Information Technology (Technical Applications)
    • Minimum NSC Rating of 5 (70%) in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, NSC Rating of 4 (50%) in English and an aggregate NSC Rating of 4 (50%) for Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate
    • Minimum 60% overall average and no failed subjects for Tertiary students
  • Marketing: ND Marketing
    • Applicants with good English communications skills will be given preference
    • Minimum NSC Rating of 4 (50%) in Mathematics and Accounting, NSC Rating of 4 (50%) in English and an aggregate NSC Rating of 5 (60%) for Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate. In the absence of Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy may only be considered if the applicant has an NSC rating of 7 (80%) or more for Mathematical Literacy
    • Minimum 60% overall average and no failed subjects for Tertiary students

The applicants have the responsibility of obtaining acceptance from Telkom accredited institutions and this does not automatically qualify a student for a bursary.

How to Apply and Application Details

  1. Obtain an application form from Telkom Centre for Learning (CFL). Complete the application form with your accurate personal details.
  2. Attach certified copies of the following documents together with your application:
    • Identity document
    • Final matric results
    • Full academic record of your tertiary results, if applicable

Applicants who have not been contacted by the 30th of September, consider your application unsuccessful.

Opening and Closing Date

Usually this bursary application process open yearly on  1st March  and application date closes on  31 July   annually.

Note: Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted – please apply before the closing date to ensure your application is considered.
