OUR STANDARD BANK LEARNERSHIP/INTERNSHIPS PROGRAMMES

Universal/Prestige/Enterprise Banker.

This programme is designed to help you gain valuable work experience in customer interactions, transactional banking with a high focus on sales.

  • Qualification level: 3-year finance-related qualification
  • Next intake: 2022

Behavioural Economics, 12-month programme

Behavioral Economics at Standard Bank Group uses behavioral insights to help us better understand our clients, so we can deliver more of what they want and need, while shaping and influencing their behaviour. In this programme, you’ll gain unrivalled knowledge of this ever-evolving field, and work across several functions to discover how it’s applied throughout the bank.

  • Qualification Level: An Honours or Master’s in Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Economics, Neuroscience or Cognitive Science
  • Next intake: April 2022

Standard Trusts Tax Internship, 24-month programme

This internship is designed to develop specialist tax skills as it relates to deceased estates and trusts. The 24-month programmes includes a formal certificate at a postgraduate level with an accredited training provider.

  • Qualification level: BCom Honours (specialising in Tax)
  • Next intake: 2023

This internship is designed to give you valuable insights into both litigation and transactional law within the banking environment, as well as help establish your legal mind as a Corporate Lawyer.

  • Qualification level: LLB/LLM graduates
  • Work experience: Must have recently served their articles and are or about to become admitted attorneys. They should be able to demonstrate legal skills and experience in the following areas:
  • Banking and Financial Services
  • General Corporate/Restructuring & Liquidations
  • Litigation
  • Digital/Technology.

Can I apply to open roles while I am on a programme?

Yes.

Does an intern automatically get offered a permanent position after completing the Internship programme?

No. Interns need to follow the recruitment process and apply for a permanent position through the Standard Bank Group career website, based on the current opportunities available.

Does Standard Bank Group assist with furthering my studies?

Not while completing the internship programme. Should you be placed in a permanent role, you can apply for a bursary if you wish to continue studying.

Do I have to pay back the investment should I resign from the internship programme?

There is no pay-back or work-back agreement attached to the internship programme. This means that if you left the organisation, you wouldn’t have to pay back any investment made during the course of the programme.

Do I need to have work experience to be considered for the Internship Programme?

This may be a requirement for certain programmes. Please refer to the minimum requirements for the internship programme you’re applying for.

Do you consider Grade 12 students?

No, internships are offered to individuals who have post Grade 12 (Matric) qualifications.

Do your programmes cater for people with disabilities?

Yes. We have an inclusive culture, and are open to reasonably accommodating special needs in the workplace.

I’m not a recent graduate – can I apply?

Yes, any individuals between the ages of 18-30 can apply for any of our Internship programmes.

I don’t have a completed post Grade 12 (matric) qualification – can I apply?

This may vary from programme to programme. Please refer to the minimum requirements of the programme you’re applying for.

What can I expect as a salary?

Interns earn a monthly stipend rather than a salary. This is an allowance which enables you to travel to and from the workplace or training institution, is in line with The National Minimum Wage Act 9 of 2018 (NMWA), and is determined by the cost and complexity of the programme.

Where are the internship programmes located?

Our specialist programmes mostly run in Johannesburg, although other programmes are offered nationally.
