About Netflix Creative Equity Scholarship Fund 

World’s largest entertainment streaming service, Netflix has announced $1 Million USD for CESF (Creative Equity Scholarship Fund) in the sub-Saharan region of Africa. This is for providing financial assistance to create individuals of Africa to pursue film and television studies at prestigious academic institutions. This is a part of the continuing efforts of Netflix to support the creative industries in Africa and to give African stories a more diverse and new voice.

Tshikululu Social Investments is Netflix’s fund administrator/implementing partner in the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The firm aims to help Netflix successfully implement its project within the SADC region.

Scholarship Coverage

In order to assist creative individuals living in the SADC region with formal training and qualification, the CESF provides full scholarships to partner HEI (higher educational institutions) in South Africa, which is listed below.

The scholarship fund will be covering the expenses of tuition, living, study materials and accommodation at the institutions where the beneficiaries have taken admission for pursuing a television/film-related course of study.

Eligibility Criteria For The Netflix Creative Equity Scholarship Fund

Interested applicants must satisfy the following eligibility requirements to qualify for the Netflix Creative Equity Scholarship Fund 2022.

  • The students in the final year of their graduation study must be completing their graduation in 2022, or postgraduate student expecting to complete a one-year qualification by 2022
  • The following tertiary institutions or HEIs will be considered by Netflix:
    • Boston Media House
    • AACA Film and Acting School
    • Cape Peninsula University of Technology
    • AFDA
    • City Varsity
    • Tshwane University of Technology
    • Durban University of Technology
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • University of the Witwatersrand
    • University of Johannesburg
    • University of Pretoria
    • University of Cape Town
  • South African students from SADC region countries who meet all the necessary requirements to study there
  • Applicants from the following countries are eligible: Botswana, Angola, Comoros, Eswatini, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia, Mozambique, Seychelles, Tanzania, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.
  • Students who have achieved at least a 60% academic average 
  • A student willing to apply to a 1-year postgraduate course must have finished his or her undergraduate studies between 2019 and 2021
  • Financially needy students who have the required proof and are not able to get any financial assistance from any other sources such as the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.

How to Apply For The Netflix Creative Equity Scholarship Fund?

Make sure to submit the completed application form by filling all the required details and attaching all the necessary documents to be eligible for the scholarship programme. Incomplete application or applications not fulfilling the above eligibility criteria will be rejected and won’t be eligible to apply for the grant.

Documents Required

Applicants need to attach the following documents while applying online. Make sure to submit a complete application to be considered for the scholarship programme. 

  • You must submit an official copy of your current academic records if you are an undergraduate student
  • An official copy of your transcript of results is required if you already completed undergraduate studies
  • Provide proof of acceptance and/or registration at any of the universities listed above
  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Result copy of your Matriculation (National Senior Certificate)

The last date of application is 4 February 2022. No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
