Apprenticeship Training

Our apprenticeship programs span between 3 to 4 years. They are designed for learners with an interest in a technical career. Most applicants will have attended a technical high school or would have studied maths and technical subjects at an academic school or TVET college.

We offer two streams of apprenticeship. The first is automotive related, where learners choose between an Automotive Electrician and Motor Mechanic.

The second is more plant and equipment oriented, where trade options include Millwright, Electrician or Fitter and Turner. These learners would typically be seeking a career as an artisan maintaining complex machinery in a production facility or mechanised plant.

The Mercedes-Benz Learning Academy is both an accredited training provider and trade test centre. Accordingly, learners are offered concentrated theory and practical exposure. This includes plant and work-place rotations right through to their final qualification in their trade of choice.

Unemployed learners are paid a stipend for the duration of their training to help with transport and meal costs – an onsite canteen is available – and are also provided with the necessary protective equipment as required in the maintenance workshop environment.

Shopfloor Skills Training

This two month shop floor training program is aimed to bridge preparing the unemployed school or college leaver for a job as a production worker in a typical manufacturing environment. Learners are given both theory and practical training to equip them with an understanding of the manufacturing world – topics covered include safety, hand tools, power tools, quality, logistics and production systems.

No previous exposure to tools is assumed, so learners are taken through the basics in a motivating environment and equipped with skills that will build confidence to enter the working world.

Typical work-place conditions are simulated in our shop floor training to develop an appreciation of documentation, operating instructions, work ethic, team-work and a continuous improvement mind-set. Once qualified, all learners are placed into a database and are actively marketed with local manufacturing firms, thereby vastly increasing their employment opportunities.

Unemployed learners are paid a stipend for the duration of their training to support transport and meal costs (an on-site canteen is available) – they are also provided the necessary personal protective equipment as generally required in the shop floor environment.
