About PSA Stiglingh Memorial
The Public Servants Association of South Africa or PSA is the largest trade union in the Public Service which aims to protect and promote its members’ rights. It has history of almost a century of public assistance being established way back July 1920 and represents more than 230000 public servants and employees. In 2007, social responsibility has become the core objective of PSA, helping many communities as a result. PSA social responsibilities include project empowerment, joint ventures and charitable donations.
PSA Stiglingh Memorial Bursaries
The Stiglingh Memorial Bursary was made possible by a former PSA member, Mr JH Stiglingh since 1993 to students who wish to continue studies in Medicine or Natural Sciences fields. This bursary is awarded every year to public servants and/or PSA members and their dependent children, who are either PSA employees or PSA members for a minimum of twelve months before the closing date of the year of the bursary applied for.
The Stiglingh Memorial Bursary amounts to a minimum of R3 000 each to a maximum of R10 000, base on funds availability.
Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
- Undergraduate or post-graduate Full-time or part-time students of Natural Sciences and Medicine fields from second year of study at an accredited South African University
- Public servants and/or PSA members for at least 12 months and their dependents are given preference
How to Apply and Application Details
To start the application, send the following documents:
- Application letter
- Recent curriculum vitae
- Certified copies of academic records and results
- Proof of membership of the PSA, if applicable
Complete application documents must be submitted to the Director, Postgraduate Funding Office, UCT at Postgraduate Centre and Funding Office, Upper Level Otto Beit Building University Avenue North
Upper Campus University of Cape Town.
Closing Date
15 October every year
Universities submit the applications from candidates in order of preference as soon as possible after the closing date, but not later than 15 February to the PSA.
