About Northern Cape Government

The Northern Cape Province was formed in the year 1994 and is one of the largest and most sparsely populated areas in South Africa. The Province is governed by a government that consists of a premier, an executive council of ministers, and a legislature.

The vision of the government is to help the province to grow into a modern and successful province. It works in close collaboration with the national government and municipalities within the province to ensure that the citizens receive the required services and facilities.

Northern Cape Government Bursary 2022

The Northern Cape Government bursary 2022 is specifically aimed at aiding needy students from the Northern Cape Province. The bursary will be allotted to students for studying in the following fields:

  • Commerce
  • Arts & Culture
  • Data Science(BSc)
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Human Settlements
  • Humanities
  • Health Sciences
  • International Relations
  • Information Technology/ Systems (BSc or BCom)
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Local Government
  • Marine Economy
  • International Relations
  • Social Work
  • Tourism
  • Rural Development
  • Natural & Agriculture Sciences
  • Mining, Minerals, and Energy
  • Transport Economics
  • Transport Engineering
  • Town & Regional Planning

Students need to know that the bursary will not pay for the outstanding expenses of their studies for any previous year/current year.

Bursary Eligibility Criteria

The government has set certain eligibility criteria which the students should meet. Those who fail to fulfill all the eligibility requirements will not be considered for the bursary.

  • One must be a South African citizen to avail of this bursary
  • Student must be residing in the Northern Cape Province
  • Students between the age group of 18-35 years can apply
  • One must not be under any kind of employment
  • Applicant must be in Matric or must have completed Matric
  • One should have the intention to study towards a full-time qualification in any of the above-mentioned fields
  • Students must be enrolled or should be willing to register at a recognized and
  • Students with strong academic records and weak financial circumstances will be given preference
  • One must have scored a minimum average of 55% in the current/latest qualification

How to Apply?

While filling the application form the following important points must be kept in mind:

  • The form must be filled accurately and completely
  • One must use black ink to fill the details
  • All the required documents must be attached
  • The certified documents must not be older than 6 months
  • One must attach the following documents to the form to complete their application. If one or any of the documents are missing then the application will not be considered for the bursary.
  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Latest Matric results, if one is currently in Matric
  • Those who have completed Matric should submit a certified copy of the Matric Certificate
  • Latest academic records/results
  • Certified copy of registration/acceptance at an accredited tertiary institution
  • Certified identity proof of parents, guardian, spouse, or co-debtor
  • One of the household income proof of parents, guardian, spouse, or co-debtor:
  • If employed, attach proof from the department of labor
  • Official SASSA document if in receipt of child grant
  • If self-employed, submit a copy of the latest financial statement and tax assessment
  • If dead submit a Death Certificate
  • Marriage certificate, if married
  • Divorce certificate, if divorced
  • In case of single parents, submit a confirmation from the school principal or affidavit
  • If under the supervision of a legal guardian, submit an affidavit from the guardian
  • Legal document if orphan or fostered child

The last date of application is 12 November Annually
