Mbuyelo Coal is a mining company with an emphasis on coal. The company operates several coal mining sites and extracts several million tonnes of coal every year. Rirhandzu Colliery, Boschpoort Colliery, and Roodepoort are some of the sites it operates in. Mbuyelo Coal is part of Mbuyelo Group, a black-owned company with footprints in Mpumalanga province.
Mbuyelo Group has several social responsibility programs where they intend to uplift the community. Mbuyelo, a Xitsonga word, literally translates to ‘Returns’ in English. The philosophy of giving back is at the heart of the company.
Mbuyelo Coal Bursary 2022
Mbuyelo Coal is offering financial assistance to a certain number of students every year who are in need of it. The funds come directly from the mining operations and are passed on to the underprivileged students. By doing so, the company also increases the available talent pool in the country. The bursaries are awarded primarily in the mining sector. For the academic session 2022, here are the fields of study where the bursaries will be awarded:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Safety Management
The value of the bursary is decided on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the need, bursars can avail either partial or full coverage for their tuition costs. Initially, the coverage is only for one year. But bursars can renew for the following year depending on satisfactory academic performance and eligibility.

To be selected for the bursary programme, students must fulfill all the eligibility criteria. These are laid out by Mbuyelo Group to select the appropriate candidates for the bursary.
