For the May/June 2022 exams, the deadline for matric rewrites recently expired. However, registration for the November NSC exams has begun at the Department of Basic Education (DBE).

After two extensions, the Senior and National Senior Certificates deadlines have now both passed.

If you missed that chance and you qualify as an NSC candidate, registration for the November NSC exam is currently available and will end on March 15, 2022. The Department of Basic Education has made this announcement via its official Twitter account on social media.

Who is eligible to write the National Senior Certificate examination?

Below are the people who are able to write the National Senior Certificate examinations:

  • Students presently in Grade 12
  • Anyone who wishes to enhance their prior NSC scores and who is still an NSC candidate (i.e., whose certificate has not been changed to SC) may sign up as a part-time candidate for the NSC exams.

The minimum requirements needed to obtain a National Senior Certificate are as follows:

Below are the minimum requirements you need to achieve in order to pass matric:

  • 30 percent in three courses and 40 percent in three subjects, one of which must be an official language at the Home Language level.
  • Give complete justification for the SBA component in the available disciplines.

What Documentations You Need To Rewrite Matric

Below are the documents you need to have in order to apply and write the rewrite examinations for matric. 

  • You completed your matriculated examinations.
  • Your exam results in writing.
  • ID document that is a certified copy and contains a statement of your (prior) matric results.

  • Focus on your health and mental wellbeing. 
  • Make a study schedule.
  • Determine your peak periods.
  • Utilize the test questions from the past.

How To Apply For A Matric Rewrite

To register, you must bring a copy of your ID and your Matriculation certificate or statement of results. When you have gathered all the required paperwork, you can go to your neighborhood district office.

Apply online at the Second Chance Programme website if you require additional assistance to ensure your readiness. The Second Chance Programme offers a variety of study resources and in-person instruction.

The Second Change Programme provides support to learners that have missed the minimum requirements of the NSC (National Senior Certificate) or the SC (Senior Certificate). The opportunity to appeal is available to candidates whose exam results were withheld owing to irregularities. Additionally, students can ask—preferably in writing—why their results are being withheld, and they can also get help from the district office or their school.

Senior Certificate applicants who missed this deadline may register for the 2023 May/June SC from 1 October 2022 through 31 January 2023 since Senior Certificate exams are only offered in May/June.

Candidates have been urged to go to the Department of Education office that is closest to them in order to get exam results or to ask any other questions.
