ArcelorMittal Bursaries

ArcelorMittal bursaries are offered to Bachelor of Engineering students as well as Young Technicians professionals. Bursaries are awarded during the April school holidays annually to full-time students of accredited ArcelorMittal South Africa institutions. The bursary covers tuition fees, accomodation, meal and books costs, scientific calculator and a personal computer.

Successful applicants will not only be provided with financial support for their studies, professional support is also given. Bursary holders will be assisted by The Engineers and Technician Association (ETA), a group of young professionals who were also former ArcelorMittal bursary holders and have already obtained formal qualifications provide assistance to the company’s current bursary holders. Technical and business related information sharing as well as general assistance to work related issues are also available from the Young Professionals Forum. Mentors are also assigned to all bursary holders. There are also coaches who can assist and provide support and feedback for Candidate Engineers.

Successful applicants’ academic performance will be monitored during the duration of their bursaries. This will be done two times a year by progress evaluation every semester through official results from the institution, academic progress discussion, bursary reinstallation/cancellation/suspension according to academic results and bursary holders’ six-week practical training at the end of the year.

Upon graduation, ArcelorMittal offers career opportunity through their Candidate Engineer Programme. This is a 24-month training programme that will give students work experience to prepare themselves as professional engineers.

ArcelorMittal Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • Current Grade 12 students with at least 60% average
  • At least 70% in  Grade 11 for both  Mathematics and Physical  Science
  • Students of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology degrees
