Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and skilled Telkom Operator to join the team at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Rondebosch. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth communication operations within the hospital, managing switchboard duties, and delivering exceptional service.

Requirements

Minimum Educational Qualification

• General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) or Grade 9 (Std 7).

Experience

• Relevant experience in operating an electronic switchboard/PABX, messaging, and paging systems.

Inherent Requirements

• Willingness to work shifts, including night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
• Availability to work overtime based on operational needs.
• Physical ability to hear and speak clearly.

Competencies (Knowledge/Skills)

• Proficiency in operating an electronic switchboard.
• Excellent listening skills and professional telephone etiquette.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Duties

• Manage incoming and outgoing calls efficiently.
• Handle switchboard operations, respond to telephonic queries, and deliver messages promptly.
• Ensure switchboard and telephone equipment are in working order.
• Operate and manage PABX and VOIP systems.
• Monitor, place, and record cellular, national, and international calls.
• Maintain records of speed dial numbers.
• Send and receive calls via the 2-way radio system.
• Broadcast staff and information via the hospital’s broadcast system.
• Report any faults or issues to the supervisor.
