General Electric (GE) is a world-renowned diversified company that currently holds a conglomerate status. The company is involved in sectors like aviation, renewable energy, capital, healthcare, global research, and lighting. Founded in 1892 in Boston, Massachusetts, it is one of the oldest companies currently in operation.
GE has a significant presence in South Africa from 1898 onwards. The Johannesburg office was the first international office to open outside of the United States. It employs about 600 people in the country and provides services to various companies in key sectors.
General Electric South Africa Bursary 2022
General Electric is offering financial assistance to students who face financial hardships in the form of bursaries. These are awarded every year to a select number of students. For the academic session 2022, here are the fields of study where the General Electric South African bursaries will be awarded:
- Engineering
- Commerce
- Health Science
- Humanities
- Social Science
Not all qualifications are considered eligible. The value of the bursary will be decided on a case-by-case basis and will cover expenses like tuition fees, accommodation, and textbook costs. Some students may also receive stipends. More information on these things will be provided to shortlisted candidates via email.
Bursary Eligibility Criteria
To be selected for the bursary, you must fulfill the eligibility criteria. The company specifies these to choose the bursars from a vast pool of applicants. Anyone applying for the bursary funding must satisfy all of the criteria to be selected. Therefore, always cross-check before applying.
The eligibility requirements for General Electric South African bursary 2022 are:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must not be older than 30 years of age at the time of applying
- Must be either currently be in matric or have completed Matriculation
- Must be either pursuing to willing to pursue a full-time qualification at a
- Must be studying within one of the fields of study mentioned above
- Must have scored no less than 60% in the current studies
- Must not be benefitting from any other bursary, scholarship, or any type of funding from an institution or organisation
Fulfilling all the criteria, however, doesn’t guarantee bursary funding. Preference is given to those that belong to a previously disadvantaged background. The list of bursars published by General Electric will be considered final.
How to Apply?
If you meet all of the eligibility requirements, move forward with the application process. It’s an online process that’s simple and short. It shouldn’t take more than an hour to complete. However, you’re supposed to be diligent and not rush through it. Incorrect or incomplete submissions are rejected without any notification to the applicant. Therefore, always read the instructions and follow the steps mentioned below after reviewing.
General Electric uses the Fundi platform to manage all the applicants. It is a state-of-the-art education finance provider that has partnered up with many companies, including GE. Therefore, you must create an account at Fundi first by clicking here.
Click on “Create new student profile” to start creating an account. Alternatively, click on “Login to Existing Profile” if you already have an account.
Provide all the necessary information and complete your account. It’s important to provide correct details and updated information. Incorrect submissions will lead to rejection.
Documents Required
The next step is to submit the documents necessary for this bursary application. These are required for verification purposes and to further process your application. If any of the items are found missing, your application will be rejected. Here are the documents you’d have to prepare and upload to the Fundi platform:
- ID documents (certified copies only)
- Grade 11 final results and most recent Matric results, if currently in Matric (certified copies only)
- If currently pursuing a degree at university, submit full academic record (certified copies)
- Proof of acceptance into a university or provisional admission letter (must be on institution letterhead)
- Proof of household income (payslips if employed; affidavit if unemployed; SASSA letter if parents/guardians receiving a pension)
