About AFROX
African Oxygen Limited (Afrox) was founded in 1927 from the parent company The Linde Group, an industrial gases, engineering, and technology company. Afrox is listed on the JSE in 1963 as well as the Namibian Stock Exchange and is Africa’s market leader in gases and welding products. The company has operations in nine other African countries including South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Mauritius, Madagascar and Ghana.
Afrox has 41 different manufacturing sites throughout South Africa which comprise of 31 units and 16 automated plants. The company has also a network of distributors as well as 20 000 suppliers and partners worldwide.
AFROX Bursaries
Bursaries are granted to students who have excelled in their academic standings and are planning to pursue studies in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
The bursary covers education fees, books and lodging costs which include meals and laundry. Grantees are required to do vacation work in Afrox as well as renew their bursaries every year. Bursaries are valid for one year only and should be renewed for the succeeding academic year which is subject to academic performance and vacation work in Afrox.
Vacation work is required for the bursary holders during June/July and December/January university breaks. Bursary holders will also have to create a presentation based on a project completed from vacation work and it will be presented to the Young Talent Development Committee.
Afrox Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
- Disadvantaged background is preferred
- Excellent academic performance
- Students of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering
- South African citizen
- Higher Grade Mathematics and Science are required
