Usher Messenger : Division of the High Court

The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) is inviting applications for the position of Usher Messenger at the Free State Division of the High Court in Bloemfontein. Position Details

• Reference Number: 2025/185/OCJ
• Salary: R163,680 – R192,810 per annum (Level 03)
• Location: Free State Division of the High Court, Bloemfontein
• Contract: The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement.

Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Grade 10/ABET (NQF Level 2).
• Experience: No prior experience required, though a minimum of one (1) year of relevant exposure to a court environment is an added advantage.
• Other: A valid driver’s license.
• Skills and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Client orientation and customer focus.
  • Time management and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, accuracy, confidence, and the ability to work under pressure.

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Usher Messenger, you will play a vital role in supporting court operations. Key responsibilities include:

• Escorting Judges to courtrooms.
• Providing administrative support to Judges and courtroom staff.
• Maintaining courtrooms and courtroom records.
• Ensuring the smooth running of courtrooms.
• Collecting and distributing post, parcels, files, and other documents.
• Photocopying official documents and making copies of court rolls for distribution.
• Being present in court during sessions.
• Performing general messenger duties and assisting in the general office when required.
