About Northam Platinum
Northam Platinum Limited is a South African integrated PGM (platinum-group metals) production company. It specializes in mining and producing metals like platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Northam serves the jewellery and motor manufacturing sector with its products.
The Northam Zondereinde mine produces nearly 300,000 oz of refined PGMs every year. More than 45 different types of PGMs are mined from this site. Zondereinde mine is situated in the Thabazimbi town, Limpopo province.
The mine is a vital component and a major source of revenue for Northam Platinum. It also employs many people and contributes to the local economy.
Northam Zondereinde Bursary 2022
Northam has several educational and development programmes in place for individuals to develop themselves. The Northam Zondereinde Bursary programme is one of them. It was formed as per the company’s Social and Labor Plan (SLP) to ensure the availability of skilled professionals.
For the academic session 2022, Northam will be awarding bursaries to students in the following mining-related fields of study:
- Analytical chemistry
- Chemical engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Environmental engineering
- Financial management
- Human resource management
- Marketing and communication
- Mechanical engineering
- Metallurgical engineering
- Mining engineering
- Mining geology
- Mining survey
The value of the bursary will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the financial need, applicants may get full coverage for their tuition costs and other fees. Shortlisted candidates will get more information regarding the exact value and other details.
Eligibility Criteria For The Northam Zondereinde Bursary
There are specific criteria laid out by Northam Platinum for the bursary programme. Anyone applying for funding must fulfill all of the criteria. Since there are a limited number of bursaries on offer, it cannot award everyone. It rejects those that do not fulfill all of the criteria. Therefore, always cross-check before applying.
The candidate must fulfill the below eligibility requirements for the Northam Zondereinde Bursary Programme 2022:
- Citizen of South Africa
- Completed Matriculation
- Either pursuing or willing to pursue a qualification in one of the fields of study mentioned above
- Either studying or have provisionally been accepted into a tertiary institution (University or University of Technology) that’s accredited and recognised
- Have a strong academic track record
- Have scored at least 60% overall average in Matric
- Have scored at least 60% overall average in all major subjects, if currently pursuing a qualification at the tertiary level
Fulfilling all the criteria, however, doesn’t guarantee funding. Applicants from Thabazimbi and surrounding areas are preferred. But students from all across South Africa are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply For The Northam Zondereinde Bursary?
If you’re interested in the bursary programme, consider applying for it. You need to go through a short application process and submit the necessary documents. It doesn’t take long, but it’s important not to rush through the process. Incorrect or incomplete submissions are rejected without further consideration.
Documents Required
There are no application forms available for the Northam Zondereinde Bursary programme. You’re just required to prepare and send the following documents:
- Valid ID documents
- Matric certificate, if completed Matric
- Grade 11 results, if Matric not completed
- Proof of University admission, if currently in the first year at the university
- Full academic transcript and record, including the latest results, if currently at tertiary level
- Updated Curriculum Vitae
Please prepare certified copies of the above documents, scan them, and save them in PDF format.
Lastly, email the scanned documents to ‘bursaries@norplats.co.za.’ Insert this reference number in the subject field – ‘ZELDBU 00/22‘.
Please note that courier or hand delivery submissions will not be accepted. Northam Zondereinde will notify shortlisted candidates within a few days of the closing date.
