Until the Covid19 regulations change, new R350 Social Emergency Assistance (SRD) grant applications will not be processed. This was announced by Paseka Letsatsi, a spokeswoman for the South African Social Insurance Agency (Sassa).
The grant was introduced and distributed in 2020 under the Disaster Management Act to help those who have lost financial opportunities and have been adversely affected by the Covid 19 pandemic.

In February, President Cyril Ramaphosa extended the grant until March 2023.
Letsatsi said through SAfm that new grant applications will only be processed after the government has changed regulations to move from the Disaster Management Act to the Social Assistance Act.
He said the postponement would not affect payments from already approved people.
“Since the end of the disaster, the grant will be provided under the Social Welfare Act. Sassa cannot process the application without confirming that the law is being complied with.
” “This is just an administrative arrangement that we are confident that it will be resolved and will not leave people behind. We don’t want people to panic,” he said.

“Payment for the R350 will continue, but will be removed from national disaster management after 30 days and will continue elsewhere,” she said.
The newly proposed Covid 19 regulation has been published and the general public should comment until April 25th. People can send comments to tsakani.furumele@health.gov.za or legalreviews@health.gov.za. Or via WhatsApp at 0600123456.
