About the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC)
The National Disaster Management Center is responsible for the mitigation and management of local and national disasters. It accomplishes this task through establishing effective preventative measures and response systems. The division works in conjunction with the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCOG). Its primary objective is to promote coordination between different parties during disaster management.
Part of the responsibilities of the NDMC is to encourage the training and education of disaster management across the country. One of the ways the center has achieved this is through the provision of bursary funds for students specializing in this sector. This financial aid has greatly increased disaster management capacity building since its introduction.
