About Huawei
Huawei is a renowned Chinese technology company with a worldwide presence. The company manufactures and sells branded electronics equipment like television, mobile phone, wearables, laptops, among other things. Huawei also caters to corporate clients.
The tech company has a significant presence in South Africa and other African countries. It is involved in pioneering connectivity in the continent and has partnered up with the Broadband Development Commission for Sustainable Development for that purpose. Huawei was the first and only company to launch standalone 5G technology in South Africa.
Given its enormous size, Huawei is also involved in corporate social responsibility activities to do good for society. And the bursaries are a part of it.
Huawei Bursary 2022
Huawei is offering financial assistance to a certain number of students who are interested in the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector.
The company has partnered up with the local universities in South Africa and offering Huawei bursaries. These are meant for students in their second, third, or final year of Honours or Masters degree.
Huawei is investing millions of Rand each year to train students for the ICT sector and wants bright students who are right out of the college. As part of the bursary terms and conditions, bursaries are required to work at the company after the completion of their studies.
For the academic year 2022, the bursaries will be awarded to students involved in one of the following fields of study:
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Information Technology
The bursary amount has not been disclosed yet. Shortlisted candidates will get more details via email.
The Huawei bursary will cover the following expenses:
- Registration fees
- Full tuition cost
- Accommodation cost
- Meals
- Textbook cost
Besides that, students will also receive a stipend while they’re studying at the university.
Eligibility Criteria
To select the candidates for the bursary, Huawei has laid out specific eligibility criteria. Anyone applying for the funding must fulfill all the criteria to be considered. Failing to do so will reject in cancellation. Therefore, always cross-check before applying.
Here are the eligibility requirements for the Huawei bursary 2022:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be pursuing a Honours or Masters degree in one of the fields of study mentioned above
- Must be in their second, third, or final year of studies in 2022
- Must be studying at a recognised with which Huawei has a partnership with
- Must have a strong academic performance with a minimum GPA of 65%
- Must not be receiving benefits from any other bursaries or scholarships in 2022
- Must have a proven financial need
- Must be interested in the ICT sector
- Must be willing to work at Huawei after the completion of the studies
Fulfilling all the criteria, however, does not guarantee funding. It’s at the sole discretion of the selection committee. The list published by Huawei towards the end of the year or early next year for the respective universities will be considered final.
How to Apply?
If you fulfill all the eligibility criteria, move forward with the application process. It’s a short process that should take no more than an hour to complete. However, you should be diligent to avoid making errors. Incomplete or incorrect submissions are rejected without further consideration.
To apply for the Huawei Bursary 2022, you need to submit documents to the company. There are no application forms that you have to complete. Just mail the documents, and that’s it.
