Globeleq Scholarship Fund Applications
About Globeleq
Globeleq is a leading power production company in Africa that operates multiple power plants. The company also has investments in renewable energy sectors like solar and wind. The company was founded in 2002 and has a significant presence in Africa and the Americas.
In South Africa, the company operates as Globeleq South Africa since 2012. In the country, the subsidiary is responsible for managing eight power production projects in the renewable sector.
The South African government, along with Eskom, has a stake in the above projects. Several local community members and investors also own a part of them.
Globeleq Scholarship Fund 2022
Globeleq South Africa runs the Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) to sponsor a certain number of students for their education. It is managed by the Globeleq South African Management Services (GSAMS) and funded by the independent power producers (IPPs), Globeleq Educational Trust (GET), and a handful of other shareholders.
The main goal of the fund is to meet the technical skill demand in the renewable energy sector of the country. Thus, it creates a skill pipeline for not only Globeleq but the entire industry. The bursary also contributes to the sustainability of the energy sector.
Since 2014, Globeleq selects approximately 36 deserving students for the bursaries.
There are three types of bursaries that are awarded each year, which are:
- GSF Engineering Scholarship – Meant for students pursuing either Diploma or Bachelor’s in Technology in Mechatronic or Electrical engineering.
