About Gibela
Gibela is a dynamic manufacturing company based in the City of Ekurhuleni that is responsible for the establishment of South Africa’s commuter trains. The company is proud to contribute to the country’s rail manufacturing industry and to be able to provide training for historically disadvantaged South African citizens to teach them new skills for their own needs and the rail sector as a whole. Today, Gibela continuously strives to generate jobs for the community through the supply chain.
Gibela Rail Bursary Scheme Applications
Gibela is awarding one-year bursaries that are renewable annually depending upon the student’s academic performance. The bursaries will be granted to students that are studying or intending to study within the following fields of study:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Accounting
- Supply Chain
- Logistics Management
The bursary will cover the full tuition, accommodation, meal expenses, and book allowance.
Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
Applicants must qualify in the following requirements prior to applying:
- A South African citizen with a South African bar-coded identity document
- Enrolled or intending to enroll at an RSA University or University of Technology
- Proven need for financial assistance
- Demonstrates competitive academic potential

Alternatively, applicants may also complete the application online at https://careerwise.co.za/applications/.
On the website, applicants must select the online application option and use Gibela 2023 as the promotional code upon registering an account profile.
The application must be accompanied by the following supporting documents:
- Matric with Level 6 for Mathematics, Physical Science, and Accounting, and Level 5 for English
- Written proof of acceptance for admission to a South African University or University of Technology
