Generation Google Scholarship 2022 (Women in Computer Science)
Google is running multiple scholarship programmes to encourage more students to take up science and technology. One such scholarship programme is the ‘Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Computer Science.’ It aims to encourage more female students to enter the field of technology and become computer scientists. The bursary programme is available in many countries, including South Africa.
The students can be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD programme in any of the following areas:
- Computer Science
- Computer Engineering
- Any other related fields
The scholarships are valued at R 121,000 and cover the following expenses:
- Tuition fees
- Textbooks
- Study supplies
- Other equipment
Students are expected to pay for the rest of the expenses like accommodation and meals.
This is a scholarship programme, and selection is based on merit. Students must demonstrate an excellent academic track record, professional leadership qualities, and a strong desire to impact diversity.
Eligibility Criteria For The Women in Computer Science Scholarship
There are certain eligibility criteria in place for this scholarship programme. These are developed by Google to select the students from a large pool of applicants. Everyone applying for the funding must meet all of the requirements to be considered. Therefore, always cross-check before applying.
The eligibility requirements for Generation Google Scholarship 2022 (Women in Computer Science) are:
- Must be a female student
- Must be a resident of any African, European, or Middle Eastern country
- Must be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate course at a recognised university in Europe, Africa, or the Middle East
- The course must commence from 2022-23 academic session
- Must be pursuing a full-time degree (Bachelors, Masters, or PhD)
- Must be pursuing education in one of the fields of study mentioned above
- Must have a strong academic record
- Must be interested in computer science and passionate about impacting the lives of underrepresented groups
Not everyone applying for the scholarship funding will be awarded. Preference is given to those with a stronger academic record or leadership qualities.
How to Apply For The Scholarship?
Eligible students should move forward with the application process. It’s an online process that’s quick and easy to complete. However, it requires attention to detail and diligence. Incomplete or incorrect submissions are rejected without further consideration.

Then, submit the required documents.
Documents Required
- Updated CV
- Brief background details (personal details, current and past studies, contact details)
- Academic transcripts of the current and completed study programmes (must be on institution letterhead)
- Letter of reference from your instructor, professor, adviser, or supervisor
Finally, you’d have to write essays on the following topics (a maximum of 300 words):
- How you became interested in computers and computer science, your ambitions and plans to create an impact in the field after graduating?
- A brief description of the most significant project you’ve worked on or contributed in the field of computer science. Discuss the key technological challenges of the project and the measures you took to solve them. If it was a team project, describe your role.
- Any project or instance where you showcased your leadership qualities. Describe how your actions influenced the desired outcome and what you learned from it. The work doesn’t have to be a formal or traditional leadership role. It can be anything within a community or group of people.
- The challenges you believe women are facing to enter the field of technology and how you hope to address those.
- The impact you believe the scholarship would have on your education, career. Mention some of the strong reasons why you deserve the scholarship
