About Gauteng Department of Human Settlements
One of the major functions of the Gauteng Provincial Department of Human Settlements (GDHS) is to facilitate the delivery of human settlements, New Towns, and Smart Cities. This department is one a department of the South African government. It provides its residents with affordable human settlements and housing. It is also involved in the development of new towns and in the transformation of current towns and cities within the province.
Gauteng Department of Human Settlements Bursary 2021 (External)
For the Academic Year 2021, the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements extends an invitation to 1st-year undergraduate students to apply for its bursary programme. Funding will go to full-time qualified undergraduate students in the following fields of study:
- Construction Management
- Civil Engineering
- Information and Communication Technology
The bursary will provide coverage for the following expenditures:
- Tuition fees
- Registration fees
- Prescribed textbooks
- Accommodation
- Other study materials
Applicants who qualify for the bursaries will get contacted. Applicants who don’t get any notification should consider their application unsuccessful.
Gauteng Department of Human Settlements Bursary 2021 (External) Requirements and Eligibility
Before applying, candidates should first satisfy the following entry criteria:
- Must be a citizen of South Africa
- Must reside in the province of Gauteng
- Must be between the ages of 18 and 35
- Must have already completed Matric
- Must be currently registered to study full-time in one of the fields mentioned above
- Must be currently studying towards an undergraduate qualification that’s worth at least 360 NQF credits
- Must start their 1st undergraduate year of study in 2021
- Must be currently registered to study at one of the recognised Institutions of Higher Learning in the province of Gauteng
- Must possess a strong academic record
- Mustn’t be a recipient of any other financial study assistance or bursary funding from another organisation or institution
- Preference will go to students from disadvantaged backgrounds – those who have attended township schools or have a household income below R3500 each month
- Students with disabilities may apply too
Failure to satisfy all of these requirements will lead to the application getting disregarded.

Interested applicants must also submit the following documentation together with their accomplished application form:
- A certified copy of an ID document
- A certified copy of the Matric certificate
- A certified copy of the most recent academic record
- Proof of registration or admission to a tertiary institution
- A certified copy of proof of residence in the form of taxes and rates or a statement of water and lights
- A certified copy of proof of income of parents or guardians in the form of most recent payslips (if employed) or an affidavit (if unemployed)
- Bank statements of parents or guardians
