About Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development
Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) strives to economically transform the agricultural sector, guarantee sustainable environmental management for healthy living, maximize food security, and to develop and enhance the rural and urban communities in Gauteng.
Ultimately, GDARD is responsible for Gauteng’s nature conservation, environmental protection, and agricultural affairs.
GDARD Bursary
The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) is awarding a limited number of bursaries to historically disadvantaged South Africans residing in the Gauteng province. The bursary will be made available to students who are considering a career in the Veterinary Science, Agriculture, and Environmental Sectors, including the following areas of study:
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science
- Geo-Informatics or GIS related qualification (BSc)
- Environmental Science (BSc)
- Environmental Management (BSc)
- Food Science (BSc)
- Zoology (BSc)
- Botany (BSc)
- Ecology (BSc)
- Chemical Engineering (National Diploma/Degree)
- Analytical Chemistry (National Diploma/Degree)
- Veterinary Laboratory Technology (National Diploma)
- Food Technology (National Diploma)
Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. If you do not receive a response by the end of January 2020, consider your application unsuccessful.
Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy the following criteria in order for his or her application to be considered:
- South African citizen
- A permanent resident in the Gauteng province for at least one year prior to applying for the bursary
- Accepted to study at a higher educational institution
- Studying or intending to study full time at a recognized institution of higher learning in Gauteng province
- Preference will be given to those who demonstrate competitive academic performance, with disabilities, and those who are not currently benefitting from any other bursary.
Applicants must also qualify in the following minimum requirements for the corresponding fields of study:
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science – Mathematics and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)
- Geo-Informatics or GIS related qualification (BSc) – Mathematics and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)
- Environmental Science (BSc) – Mathematics and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)
- Environmental Management (BSc) – Mathematics and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)
- Food Science (BSc) – Mathematics and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)
- Zoology (BSc) – Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)
- Botany (BSc) – Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)
- Ecology (BSc) – Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)
- Chemical Engineering (National Diploma/Degree) – Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)/Level 4 (50-59)
- Analytical Chemistry (National Diploma/Degree) – Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physical Science Level 5 (60-69)/Level 4 (50-59)
- Veterinary Laboratory Technology (National Diploma) – Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physical Science Level 4 (50-59)
- Food Technology (National Diploma) – Mathematics and Physical Science Level 4 (50-59)
