Job Overview

The Department is seeking a highly experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead and oversee strategic financial management, budgeting, reporting and supply chain governance at national level. This executive post forms part of the Senior Management Service (SMS) and plays a key role in ensuring financial accountability and PFMA compliance.


Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification:
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification in Accounting, Financial Management, or Auditing (SAQA-recognised)
    • Nyukela Pre-Entry Certificate for SMS (mandatory)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years’ senior managerial experience in financial management within the public sector
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s licence
    • Ability to obtain/maintain security clearance (if required)

Knowledge of:

  • Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) & Treasury Regulations
  • Public sector Supply Chain Management (SCM) policies
  • LOGIS & government financial systems
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) & GAAP
  • Governance and financial compliance frameworks
  • ICT systems used in public finance

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage Financial Accounting and Reporting services of the Department
  • Lead, monitor and control the budgetary process in line with PFMA compliance
  • Provide strategic leadership for Supply Chain Management (SCM) functions
  • Oversee the Financial Management Services Unit
  • Ensure transparent governance, audit readiness and financial integrity across the department
  • Implement financial best practices, risk management and cost-control strategies
