Important NSFAS Updates for Students

Update Your Banking Details

NSFAS now requires all TVET college beneficiaries to receive their allowances directly into their personal bank accounts. This change, effective from May 25, 2024, aims to streamline payments and ensure timely disbursements.

Action Required:

  1. Open a Bank Account: If you don’t have one, please open an account with a bank of your choice.
  2. Submit Your Banking Details:
    • Log in to your myNSFAS account at www.nsfas.org.za.
    • Navigate to the ‘Profile Information’ section and select ‘Bank Account Details’.
    • Enter your bank account information and save.

Important Notes:

  • Ensure the bank account is in your name.
  • Do not use the previous NSFAS Direct Payment Black card.
  • University students will continue to receive allowances through their institutions until the end of July 2024.

NSFAS Application Period for 2025-2026

The NSFAS application window for the 2025-2026 academic year is open from November 21, 2024, to January 31, 2025. Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply within this period, as late applications may not be considered.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • South African citizens or permanent residents.
  • SASSA grant recipients.
  • Applicants with a combined household income not exceeding R350,000 per year.
  • Persons with disabilities with a combined household income not exceeding R600,000 per year.

Application Steps:

  1. Create a myNSFAS Account:
  2. Complete the Application:
    • Log in to your myNSFAS account.
    • Click on the ‘Apply’ tab and fill in the required personal information.
    • Upload the necessary supporting documents.
    • Submit your application before January 31, 2025.
