About NDMC
The National Disaster Management Center or NDMC is responsible for handling the natural disasters taking place in South Africa. It is a government body that comes under the Department of Cooperative Governance (DoCG).
NDMC’s primary aim is to plan and execute an integrated and coordinated system to disasters and mitigate the loss of lives and properties. The government body is largely responsible for administering the Fire Brigade Services Act (FBSA).
National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) Bursary 2022
NDMC is offering bursaries to a certain number of students every year. That is to encourage more students to build their careers in disaster management. Known as the National Disaster Management Centre bursary, it is offered to both undergraduate and students. For the academic session 2022, too, the students have to be pursuing a qualification related to disaster management.
The bursary value is decided on a case-by-case basis. It can up to a maximum funding of R 500 and a research allowance of up to R 11,000 for Masters students.
It will cover the following cost:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
NDMC will also provide a learning resources allowance to all the bursars. To be selected, the applicants would have to sign a contract with DCoG through the NDMC.
Eligibility Criteria
Anyone applying for the funding must fulfill all the criteria a specified by NDMC. Failing to do so will result in cancellation of your application.
The eligibility requirements for NDMC bursary 2022 are:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be either studying, or have applied, or have been accepted for a disaster management qualification or a field associated with disaster management
- Must be pursuing either a postgraduate or undergraduate degree (certifications and PhD qualifications are not considered)
- Must be studying or looking forward to studying at a that’s recognised by NDMC
- Must have scored at least 50% in each subject in Matric
- Must have scored at least 50% in all major subjects in your first year
- The household income should not exceed R 350,000 per year
Fulfilling all the criteria, however, does not guarantee funding. Preference will be given to students who are involved in disaster management qualification over those pursuing a related degree. The list of bursars published by the NDMC will be considered final.
How to Apply?
If you meet all the eligibility criteria, move forward with the application process. You can apply either in the online or offline mode as per your convenience. Both the processes are simple and shouldn’t take more than an hour to complete. But don’t rush through it and make mistakes. Incorrect or incomplete forms are rejected without further consideration. Follow the instructions mentioned below to apply for NDMC bursary 2022.
- Applying Online
If you’re applying online, then first visit the NDMC bursary application page. Here, you’d have to create an account. Start off by reviewing the information provided on the landing page and clicking on Apply. Then click on Register to create an account. If you already have an account, login instead. Then read the instructions and complete your profile. You must answer all the questions that are applicable and are marked.
Then, you have to prepare, scan, and upload the following documents:
- ID documents (certified copies only)
- Matric certificate (certified copies only)
- Most recent academic results in 2021, if currently studying (on institution letterhead)
- Proof of acceptance or registration, if not presently studying
- Latest academic results, if pursuing a postgrad degree
- Proof of household income (payslips if employed; affidavit if unemployed; proof of pension, if applicable)
- Disclosure of other sources of income
